You Are the Light of the World
Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.
—You are the salt of the earth —he told them.
And he also told them something more:
—You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden.
—No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket. They put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
—In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Jesus was not talking about a light that is switched on with electricity. He was talking about good deeds: helping, forgiving, sharing, telling the truth and treating others well.
Every time you do something good, your light shines. And so others can come to know God better.
Tonight, before sleeping, think of one good thing you did today.
Let's talk: What good thing did you do today that is like a little light?
Your light shines when you do good. Goodnight.
