The Wolf and the Lamb
The prophet Isaiah told, long ago, what God let him see. It was a vision of peace.
—The wolf will live with the lamb —said Isaiah—, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat.
—The calf and the young lion will feed together, and a little child will lead them.
—The cow and the bear will graze together, and their young will lie down side by side. The lion will eat straw like the ox.
—The nursing child will play near the hole of the cobra, and the little one will put his hand into the viper's nest.
—They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.
It is a very beautiful picture: the animals that used to be afraid of one another now live together, and a little child leads them.
It is a picture of the peace that God promises his world: a world where no one harms anyone.
And we can begin today to build that peace, with small acts of love.
Let's talk: What gesture of peace can you make tomorrow at home or at school?
God dreams of a world at peace. You can help make it real. Goodnight.
