Story 47 of 100 · Based on Psalm 23
The Lord Is My Shepherd
David was a shepherd when he was young. He looked after his father's sheep. And later, the Bible credits him with one of the best-known prayers: the psalm of the good shepherd.
—The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing —says the psalm.
—In green pastures he makes me lie down, he leads me to quiet waters and restores my strength.
—He guides me along the right path for his name's sake.
—Even though I walk through a dark valley, I am not afraid, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff comfort me.
—You prepare a table for me, you anoint my head with oil and my cup overflows.
—Your goodness and love follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for endless years.
A shepherd knows his sheep, guides them, protects them and leads them to where there is water and grass. The psalm says that God takes care of us like that.
If some night you are afraid of the dark, you can repeat a part of this psalm: "Even though I walk through a dark valley, I am not afraid, for you are with me."
Let's talk: How does a shepherd take care of his sheep? How does God take care of you?
If you feel afraid, repeat: "You are with me." Goodnight.
