Story 49 of 100 · Based on Jeremiah 1:4-10
God Calls Jeremiah
Jeremiah was very young when God spoke to him.
—Before I formed you in your mother's womb, I knew you —God told him—. Before you were born, I set you apart. I appointed you to be a prophet.
Jeremiah was frightened.
—Ah, Lord! —he answered—. Look, I do not know how to speak. I am only a boy.
But God answered him:
—Do not say "I am only a boy." You will go wherever I send you, and you will say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of anyone, for I am with you to protect you.
Then God stretched out his hand, touched Jeremiah's mouth and said to him:
—See, I have put my words in your mouth.
Jeremiah was afraid to speak. But God promised to go with him.
God does not look at age. When he calls someone, he helps them do what he asks. And God knows you too, since before you were born.
