The Sower and His Seeds
Jesus was teaching beside the lake. There was such a large crowd that he got into a boat on the water and sat down. All the others were on the shore.
He taught them by telling stories. And one of them went like this:
—Listen: a sower went out to sow.
—As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.
—Some fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, but when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.
—Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain.
—Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop: some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.
And Jesus added:
—Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.
Afterward, Jesus explained to his disciples what he meant. The sower sows the word of God. Some hear it and welcome it into their hearts, and bear fruit. Others soon forget it.
We can ask God to make our heart good soil, so that the word of Jesus may grow in us.
Let's talk: How can you take care of the "soil" of your heart so that the word of Jesus may grow?
May the word of Jesus grow in your heart tonight. Goodnight.
