The Miraculous Catch of Fish
Jesus was standing beside the Lake of Gennesaret, and a crowd was pressing around him to hear the word of God.
He saw two boats at the water's edge. The fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets. Jesus got into one of the boats, the one that belonged to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. And sitting in the boat, he taught the people.
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon:
—Put out into deep water, and let down your nets for a catch.
—Master —Simon answered—, we have worked hard all night and have not caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.
They did, and caught so many fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. They came, and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell on his knees before Jesus.
—Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man —he said.
He was astonished, and so were his partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee.
—Do not be afraid —Jesus said to Simon—. From now on you will fish for people.
They brought their boats to shore, left everything and followed Jesus.
Let's talk: Simon trusted Jesus even though he had fished all night without success. What can you trust Jesus with?
When you trust in Jesus, he does good things. Goodnight.
