The Bush That Burned but Was Not Consumed
Moses was tending his father-in-law's sheep. One day he led the flock to the mountain of God, which is called Horeb.
There he saw something extraordinary: a bush burning with flames, but not burning up.
—I will go over and look at this strange sight —Moses said to himself—. Why does the bush not burn up?
When God saw Moses coming closer, he called to him from the bush.
—Moses! Moses!
—Here I am —he answered.
—Do not come any closer —God told him—. Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Moses covered his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
God said to him:
—I have seen how my people suffer in Egypt. I have heard their cries and I know what they are going through. I am going to save them. Go, I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people out of Egypt.
—Who am I to go to Pharaoh? —Moses asked.
—I will be with you —God answered.
Moses was not going alone: God was going with him.
Let's talk: God said, "I will be with you." What task makes you afraid, and how would it help to know that God is with you?
When you are afraid, remember God's words: "I will be with you." Goodnight.
