Moses in the Basket
A long time ago, God's people lived in Egypt, and Pharaoh had given a very harsh order against the Hebrew baby boys.
At that time a baby boy was born. His mother saw that he was beautiful, and she hid him for three months. But she could not hide him any longer.
So she took a basket made of reeds, coated it with tar so the water would not get in, put the baby in it and set it among the reeds at the edge of the Nile river. His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen.
Pharaoh's daughter came down to the river to bathe. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent one of her servants to fetch it. She opened it and saw the baby, who was crying. She felt sorry for him.
—This is one of the Hebrews' babies —she said.
Then the baby's sister came up:
—Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?
—Go —Pharaoh's daughter answered.
The girl went and called her own mother.
—Take this baby and nurse him for me —the princess told her—. I will pay you.
The mother took him and cared for him. When the child grew older, she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, who adopted him and named him Moses, because she said, "I drew him out of the water."
Let's talk: Moses' mother took care of him with great love. Who takes care of you?
God took care of Moses from the time he was a baby, and he takes care of you too. Goodnight.
