Story 22 of 100 · Based on Exodus 14
God Opens the Sea
God's people left Egypt. But Pharaoh and his army went after them, and the people found the sea in front of them and the soldiers behind.
The people were very afraid and cried out to Moses.
—Did you bring us out of Egypt to die in the desert?
—Do not be afraid —Moses answered—. You will see how the Lord saves you today. The Lord will fight for you; you just keep calm.
God said to Moses:
—Tell the Israelites to move on. And you, raise your staff, stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that my people can go through the middle on dry ground.
Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. God sent a strong wind all night long, and the sea opened. The waters stood like a wall on the right and another on the left, and God's people crossed through the middle, walking on dry land.
When everyone had reached the other side, the water returned to its place. The people saw what God had done for them, and they trusted God and Moses.
Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine, and all the women followed her with tambourines and dancing. Miriam sang:
—Sing to the Lord, for he has covered himself in glory!
God had saved them.
Let's talk: What do you do when you are afraid? What can you say to God?
The Lord takes care of his people. And he takes care of you too. Goodnight.
