The Angel Gabriel Visits Mary
God sent the angel Gabriel to a town in Galilee called Nazareth. There lived a young woman named Mary, who was engaged to a man named Joseph, of the family of King David.
The angel went in where Mary was and said to her:
—Rejoice, full of grace! The Lord is with you.
Mary was very surprised by these words and wondered what they meant.
—Do not be afraid, Mary —the angel said—, because God looks upon you with love. You will have a son and you will name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.
—How will this happen —Mary asked—, since I do not yet live with Joseph?
—The Holy Spirit will come upon you —the angel answered—, and the child to be born will be holy and will be called the Son of God. Also your relative Elizabeth, who could not have children, is expecting a baby, in spite of her old age. For nothing is impossible with God.
Then Mary said:
—Here am I, the servant of the Lord. May it happen to me as you have said.
And the angel left her.
Mary trusted God and said yes.
Let's talk: Mary said "yes" to God. What good thing can you say "yes" to tomorrow?
God counts on you, as he counted on Mary. Goodnight.
