Mary Visits Her Cousin Elizabeth
After speaking with the angel, Mary set out. She went in a hurry to a town in the hill country of Judah, to the house of her relative Elizabeth.
When Mary came in and greeted Elizabeth, the baby that Elizabeth was expecting leaped for joy inside her. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed in a loud voice:
—Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you are carrying! How is it that the mother of my Lord comes to visit me? As soon as I heard your greeting, the baby leaped for joy inside me. Happy are you who believed that what the Lord told you would come true!
And Mary answered with a song:
—My soul praises the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on his humble servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me. Holy is his name!
Mary stayed with Elizabeth about three months. Then she returned home.
Two women who loved each other visited, rejoiced together and gave thanks to God.
Let's talk: Whom would you like to visit to share a joy?
God is glad when we share our joy. Goodnight.
