Joseph Forgives His Brothers
Years went by and famine came over the whole region. Joseph's brothers went to Egypt to ask for grain. And there was Joseph, who was now governor, though they did not recognize him.
When Joseph could hold back no longer, he began to cry so loudly that the whole house heard him.
—I am Joseph —he said to his brothers—. Is my father still alive?
The brothers were speechless with fear. Then Joseph said to them gently:
—Come close to me.
And when they came close:
—I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. But now do not be sad or blame yourselves for selling me, because God sent me ahead of you to save lives. It was God, not you, who brought me here.
Then he gave them a message for their father:
—Tell him that God has made me lord of all Egypt. Let him come without delay.
Joseph hugged his brother Benjamin and wept. Then he kissed all his brothers and wept with them. And only then were his brothers able to talk with him.
Joseph forgave. And thanks to his forgiveness, the family was together again.
Let's talk: Is there someone you find it hard to forgive? How can you begin?
Forgiving takes courage. Ask God to help you. Goodnight.
