Joseph and the Angel in the Dream
Mary was engaged to Joseph, but they were not yet living together. It became known that Mary was going to have a child through the Holy Spirit.
Joseph was a good man. He did not want Mary to suffer, and he thought of quietly leaving her.
While he was thinking about this, Joseph fell asleep. And in a dream, an angel of the Lord appeared to him.
—Joseph, son of David —the angel said—, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because the child she is expecting is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.
Joseph woke up. And he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him: he took Mary into his home. And when the child was born, Joseph named him Jesus.
Matthew, who wrote this story, reminds us of what the prophet Isaiah had said:
—Behold, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel, which means "God with us."
Joseph listened to God even in dreams. And that is why Jesus grew up in a family that took care of him with love.
Let's talk: Joseph listened to God and obeyed. How can you listen to God?
Sleep peacefully: "God with us" means that God is with you. Goodnight.
