Joseph and His Colorful Coat
Jacob had twelve sons. He loved Joseph more than the others, and made him a very special coat. When his brothers saw that, they became jealous.
One night Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers.
—Listen to the dream I had —he said—. We were tying up bundles of grain in the field. My bundle rose and stood upright, and yours gathered around it and bowed down to it.
—Are you really going to be our king? —they answered.
And they became even angrier.
He had another dream. He saw the sun, the moon and eleven stars bowing down to him. And his father said to him:
—What does that dream mean? Are we all going to bow down to you?
One day, Jacob sent Joseph to see how his brothers were doing, as they were tending the sheep far from home. When they saw him coming in his coat, they grabbed him and threw him into an empty well.
Then some traders passed by on their way to Egypt, and the brothers sold Joseph for twenty pieces of silver. That is how Joseph was taken to Egypt.
Joseph's story does not end here. The Bible will say later that God was with him.
Let's talk: How do you think Joseph felt, far from home?
Even though Joseph was far from his family, God did not leave him alone. He does not leave you alone either. Goodnight.
