God Hears Hagar and Her Son
Hagar and her son Ishmael lived with Abraham. One day God told Abraham to let them go, and he also promised to take care of Hagar's son.
Abraham got up early in the morning. He took bread and a skin of water, gave them to Hagar and sent her away with the boy. Hagar wandered in the desert of Beersheba.
When the water ran out, Hagar left the boy under a bush. She sat down a good way off, about a bowshot away, and thought:
—I cannot watch my son die.
And she began to cry.
But God heard the boy's voice. An angel of God called to Hagar from heaven.
—What is the matter, Hagar? —he said—. Do not be afraid, because God has heard the boy's voice. Get up and take the boy by the hand. God will make a great nation of him.
Then God opened her eyes, and Hagar saw a well of water. She went, filled the skin and gave the boy a drink.
God was with the boy. Ishmael grew up and lived in the desert.
God hears children. If you are ever afraid or sad, he listens to you too.
Let's talk: What do you want to tell God today? He always listens.
God hears you, even when you speak very softly. Goodnight.
