Rebekah and the Camels
Abraham was getting old, and he wanted his son Isaac to marry a woman from among his relatives. He called his most trusted servant and sent him far away, with ten camels loaded with gifts.
The servant arrived at nightfall on the outskirts of a city, beside a well, at the time when the women come out to draw water. Then he prayed:
—Lord, God of my master Abraham, help me today. Let the young woman to whom I say, "Please lower your jar so I may drink," and who answers, "Drink, and I will water your camels too," be the one you have chosen for Isaac.
He had not yet finished praying when Rebekah came, with her jar on her shoulder. She was very beautiful.
—Please give me a little water —the servant asked her.
—Drink, my lord —she answered, and lowered her jar.
When he had finished, Rebekah added:
—I will also draw water for your camels, until they have finished drinking.
And she ran to the well again and again, until all the camels had drunk. The man watched her in silence. Then he thanked God, because he had heard his prayer.
Rebekah agreed to go with him. When they arrived, Isaac went out into the field at evening time. Rebekah saw him from afar.
—Who is that man coming toward us? —she asked.
—He is my master —answered the servant.
Isaac married Rebekah, and he loved her very much.
Let's talk: Rebekah helped without being asked. Whom can you help tomorrow?
One kind act can change a whole day. Goodnight.
