Abraham Sets Out
In those days there lived a man named Abram, with his wife Sarai. Later God would change their names: afterwards the Bible calls them Abraham and Sarah.
One day, God spoke to Abram.
—Leave your country, your family and your father's house —he said—, and go to the land that I will show you.
And God made him a promise.
—I will make you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. And you will be a blessing to all.
Abram did not know where he was going. But he set out, as God had told him. He was seventy-five years old.
He went with his wife Sarai and his nephew Lot, taking everything they had. They walked all the way to the land of Canaan.
There God spoke to him again.
—I will give this land to your descendants —he said.
And Abram built an altar to thank the Lord, who had appeared to him. He kept on walking, and in every place he came to, he gave thanks to God.
Let's talk: Abram trusted God even though he did not know where he was going. What can you trust God with?
God knows the way, even if you can't see it yet. Goodnight.
