Abraham Counts the Stars
Time went by. Abram and his wife still had no children, and that made him sad.
One night, God spoke to Abram in a vision.
—Do not be afraid, Abram —he said—. I am your shield, and your reward will be very great.
Abram told God what weighed on his heart.
—Lord —he said—, what good will it do to give me anything, if I still have no children?
Then God took him outside, into the open night.
—Look at the sky and count the stars, if you can —God told him.
Abram looked up. There were so many stars that they could not be counted.
—That is how many your family will be —God told him.
And Abram believed what God promised. The Bible says that God counted that trust.
If some night you look at the sky and see many stars, remember this story: Abram trusted God, and God kept his promise.
Let's talk: How many stars do you think you could count tonight?
If you look at the stars before sleeping, remember Abram and God's promise. Goodnight.
