Abraham and the Three Visitors
Abraham and Sarah were already very old. God had changed their names: before, they were called Abram and Sarai.
One day, in the hottest part of the afternoon, Abraham was sitting at the entrance of his tent. He looked up and saw three men standing in front of him.
He ran to meet them and bowed down to the ground.
—My lord, please do not pass your servant by —he said—. Let water be brought so you can wash your feet, and rest under the tree. I will bring you a little bread so you can regain your strength.
—Do as you have said —they answered.
Abraham hurried to the tent.
—Sarah, quick! Knead some flour and bake some loaves —he told her.
He himself ran to choose a tender calf, and had it prepared. He also brought them milk and curds. And while they ate under the tree, Abraham stood beside them.
—Where is Sarah, your wife? —the visitors asked.
—There, in the tent.
—I will return in a year —said one of them—, and Sarah will have a son.
Sarah was listening behind the tent entrance, and she laughed to herself.
—Is anything too hard for the Lord? —he said—. I will return, and Sarah will have a son.
Sarah was afraid and said, "I did not laugh." But he answered, "Yes, you did laugh."
Let's talk: Abraham welcomed his visitors with joy. Whom can you welcome with love?
Nothing is impossible for God. Sleep in peace. Goodnight.
