Story 24 of 100 · Based on Exodus 17:1-7
Water from the Rock
God's people continued on their way through the desert and came to a place called Rephidim. But there was no water to drink there.
The people were very thirsty and began to complain.
—Give us water to drink —they told Moses.
—Why do you complain to me? —Moses answered—. Why do you test the Lord?
But their thirst was very great, and the people complained again.
—Why did you bring us out of Egypt? To make us die of thirst, with our children and our animals?
Moses spoke with God.
—What am I going to do with this people? —he asked.
And God answered him:
—Go on ahead of the people, taking with you some of the elders of Israel, and take in your hand the staff. I will be there, in front of you, on the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock and water will come out of it, for the people to drink.
Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel. He struck the rock, and water came out. And the people drank.
When you are thirsty and drink a glass of cool water, you can remember this story and thank God.
Let's talk: When was the last time you were really thirsty? How did you feel when you drank water?
Before bed, drink a little water and thank God for it. Goodnight.
