The Hidden Treasure and the Pearl
Jesus told people very short stories so they would understand what the kingdom of God is like.
—The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field —he said one day—. A man found it and hid it again. And full of joy, he went and sold everything he had and bought that field.
Then he said another:
—It is also like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
And one more:
—The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.
In the first two stories, the treasure and the pearl are so valuable that whoever finds them does not hesitate to give up everything else. Jesus means that being with God is the most valuable thing there is.
In the third, a little yeast makes all the dough rise. In the same way, a little kindness can do a lot of good around us.
Let's talk: What is the most valuable thing you have? And what is the most valuable to God?
Being with Jesus is the best treasure. Goodnight.
