Jairus' Daughter
Jairus was a synagogue leader. One day he came to Jesus and fell at his feet.
—My little daughter is very sick —he begged—. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.
Jesus went with him. While they were on the way, some messengers came from Jairus' house.
—Your daughter is dead —they said—. Why bother the Teacher any more?
Jesus heard what they said and told Jairus:
—Do not be afraid. Just believe.
Jesus did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John. When they arrived at the house, he saw the commotion and the people crying and wailing loudly.
—Why all this commotion and crying? —he said to them—. The child is not dead but asleep.
They laughed at him. But Jesus sent them all out, took the child's father and mother and the three disciples, and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her:
—Talitha koum.
This means: "Little girl, I say to you, get up."
And the girl got up at once and began to walk around. She was twelve years old. Everyone was completely amazed.
Jesus told them to give her something to eat.
Jesus loves children, and takes care of them with great love.
Let's talk: Jesus told Jairus, "Do not be afraid, just believe." When can you say those words to yourself?
Jesus takes you by the hand with love. Goodnight.
