God Makes People and Rests
God had already made the light, the sea, the plants and the animals. Then he said something very special:
—Let us make human beings in our image and likeness.
And God created man and woman. He blessed them and spoke to them with love.
—Be many, fill the earth and take care of it —he told them.
And he also said:
—I give you every plant that bears seed and every tree that bears fruit. That will be your food.
God looked at everything he had made. And this time he did not say only that it was good. The Bible says that God saw that everything was "very good."
There was evening, there was morning, and it was the sixth day.
So the sky, the earth and everything in them were finished.
On the seventh day, God stopped working. He rested. And he blessed that day and made it holy, because on it he rested from everything he had made.
God made the world for you, and he made you too. That is why every night, when you rest, you can remember that God rested too.
