Story 32 of 100 · Based on 1 Samuel 16:1-13
God Chooses David
God spoke to the prophet Samuel.
—Fill your horn with oil and go to Bethlehem, to the house of Jesse —he said—. Because I have chosen one of his sons to be king.
Samuel went to Bethlehem and called Jesse and his sons. When he saw the oldest, whose name was Eliab, he thought:
—Surely this is the Lord's chosen one.
But God said to him:
—Do not look at his appearance or his height, because I have not chosen him. God does not see as people see: people look at appearances, but the Lord looks at the heart.
Jesse brought seven of his sons before Samuel, one by one.
—The Lord has not chosen any of these —Samuel said—. Are these all your sons?
—There is still the youngest —Jesse answered—, who is looking after the sheep.
—Send for him —said Samuel—. We will not sit down to the meal until he arrives.
Jesse sent for him. It was David, a boy with bright eyes and a fine appearance. And the Lord said to Samuel:
—Get up and anoint him, for this is the one.
Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in front of his brothers. And from that day on, the Spirit of the Lord came upon David.
Let's talk: God looks at the heart. What good thing do you have in your heart?
To God you are precious for what you carry inside. Goodnight.
