Gideon and the Wet Fleece
Gideon was working, hidden away, when an angel of the Lord appeared to him.
—The Lord is with you, mighty warrior —the angel said.
God gave him the task of saving his people.
—My family is the poorest, and I am the youngest in my house —Gideon answered.
—I will be with you —the Lord told him.
Gideon still had doubts, and he wanted to be sure. So he said to God:
—If you really will save Israel by my hand, as you have said, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If in the morning only the fleece has dew, and the ground all around is dry, I will know that you will do it.
And so it happened. In the morning, Gideon wrung out the fleece and filled a bowl with water.
Gideon said to God:
—Do not be angry with me if I speak just once more. Let me make one more test with the fleece. This time, let only the fleece be dry and let there be dew on all the ground.
God did so that night. Only the fleece was dry, and the ground was covered with dew.
God was patient with Gideon.
Let's talk: Gideon spoke to God with trust. What do you want to ask him?
God is patient with you. You can speak to him with trust. Goodnight.
