Esther, the Brave Queen
Esther was the queen, the wife of the king. Her cousin Mordecai had raised her since she was little. And one day, Mordecai sent her a very serious message: her people were in danger.
—Perhaps you have become queen for just such a time as this —Mordecai told her.
Esther was afraid, because no one could appear before the king unless he summoned them. But she decided to help her people. She sent this message to Mordecai:
—Go and gather all the Jews in the city. Fast for me three days and three nights; my maids and I will do the same. Then I will go to see the king, although it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.
On the third day, Esther appeared before the king. When he saw her, he held out to her the golden scepter, and she approached.
—What is it, Queen Esther? —the king said—. What do you ask of me? Even if it is half my kingdom, I will give it to you.
Esther invited him to a banquet. And at the banquet, the king asked her again what she wanted.
—If I have found favor with you, O king, and if it pleases you —Esther said—, let my life be granted me, and the life of my people. For we have been sold to be destroyed.
The king listened to Esther and protected her people.
Esther was brave: she used her place as queen to help others.
Let's talk: Esther was afraid, but she helped. Whom could you help, even if it makes you a little afraid?
You can be brave even when you feel afraid. Goodnight.
